It would be great if after buying home insurance online, you never had to worry about anything that could happen to your house. But the truth is that while having coverage for your home is important and can protect you against major problems, there are still a myriad of things that standard policies just don't cover - whether you have an expensive or cheap home insurance policy.

Here are a few things that may not be covered, depending on your policy:

Toxic mold: After a spike in lawsuits involving the aftereffects of toxic mold and water damage in the 1990s, most insurance companies stopped offering coverage for these claims on new policies. This makes it important to do your research on the mold levels of a home before you buy.

Sewer damage: If your town's sewage system backs up, you might be on the hook for the damages unless you are able to get the city to pay for it (which as you can imagine can be a lengthy and tiresome task). However, most policies offer you the ability to include a Sewer Damage rider for $100 or less that covers you in case of a sewage emergency.

Landslides: If the Earth suddenly comes crashing down on your house, chances are that your insurance policy won't cover it. The good news is that this rarely happens except in geologically unstable areas. If you have concerns, you can pay a geologist to give you an assessment to see if your location is ripe for a dangerous landslide.

It's important to pay close attention to your insurance policy to see what types of situations may or may not be covered - frequently, there are riders or other forms of insurance that you can purchase to give you protection and fill the gaps of your homeowners insurance.
